The 2025 US Open mixed doubles event is well underway, as four teams prepare for their semifinal matches.
Ahead of the 2025 tournament, the US Open completely revamped its mixed doubles event, inviting top singles stars to compete.
The likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Novak Djokovic, Naomi Osaka, and Madison Keys all took to the court in round one, but failed to advance.

A real mix of teams are set to compete in the semifinals, ranging from the defending champions and doubles specialists Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori, to the last-minute replacements Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison.
More-established singles players Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula will join them in the last four, as will Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud.
After he and Swiatek booked their place in the semifinals of the US Open mixed doubles tournament, Ruud was asked whether he would like to see other Grand Slams copy the format.
Casper Ruud says ‘Why not?’ when asked if the other Slams should copy the US Open mixed doubles format
During his post-match interview, Ruud was asked if he would want to play mixed doubles at the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon if they copied the new US Open format.
“We’re here practising anyway, so why not?” he said.
“You get a feel of the court, a feel of the crowd, and the balls. It’s fun, it’s not the most physically tiring work.
“Think it’s good for the fans and at least we enjoy the time on court, so I’d be happy to, but let’s see what the future brings.”

Ruud had never played a Grand Slam mixed doubles match before this year’s US Open, where he teamed up with Swiatek.
US Open Senior Director of Player Relations, Eric Butorac, recently revealed that Ruud and Swiatek paired up within 12 hours of the tournament format announcement.
The pair may have grown a connection following the Pole’s exit at the 2025 Madrid Open, where Ruud shared support for Swiatek on social media.
“Hey, Iga Swiatek, keep your head up,” he said.
“Like millions of other people, I love watching you play. Not your day today, but you inspire so many, and you’ll be back stronger than ever.”
Ruud and Swiatek also played mixed doubles against one another earlier this year, at the United Cup, when Norway took on Poland.
It was the Polish team of Swiatek and Jan Zielinski who emerged victorious 6-3, 0-6, 10-8 in a thrilling clash.
Now on the same side of the net, Swiatek and Ruud have made a fantastic start in New York and look like the team to beat.
Which of the four US Open mixed doubles semifinalists have been the most dominant?
Of the four teams remaining in the competition, no team has dropped fewer games en route to the semifinals than Ruud and Swiatek.
| Team | 1st round win | 2nd round win | Sets dropped | Games dropped |
| Casper Ruud/Iga Swiatek | 4-1, 4-2 | 4-1, 4-2 | 0 | 6 |
| Jack Draper/Jessica Pegula | 4-2, 4-2 | 4-1, 4-1 | 0 | 6 |
| Christian Harrison/Danielle Collins | 4-0, 5-3 | 4-1, 5-4 | 0 | 8 |
| Andrea Vavassori/Sara Errani | 4-2, 4-2 | 4-1, 5-4 | 0 | 9 |
Ruud/Swiatek and Draper/Pegula have both dropped just six games so far, advancing to the semifinals without much trouble.

The two most dominant teams in the competition are set to meet in the semifinals on Wednesday, August 20, with the winners advancing to take on either Vavassori/Errani or Harrison/Collins in the final later in the evening.
While Swiatek and Ruud have enjoyed more singles Grand Slam success during their careers than any other team, it would be ignorant not to appreciate Vavassori and Errani’s doubles triumphs.
The Italian pair have won two Grand Slam mixed doubles titles together (2024 US Open and 2025 French Open), and both Errani (6) and Vavassori (2) have won doubles titles of their own.
It’s tough to predict who will come away with the title, as all four teams have impressed in New York so far, but you certainly won’t want to miss any of the action.
