Casper Ruud secured the 14th title of his career and second of the year after beating Ugo Humbert to win the Stockholm Open.

Ruud overcame Humbert in straight sets, winning 6-2, 6-3 in just over an hour to clinch his second title outside of clay, and his first indoors.

The Norwegian put on an incredible display against the Frenchman and has kept his hopes of booking a place in the ATP Finals alive with the victory.

He will finish the week 11th in the ‘Race to Turin’, the annual battle for one of eight spots in the year-end competition.

Humbert came into the championship match with a winning record against Ruud and was seeking to claim his second title of 2025.

It was not to be for the world number 25, however, who received an apology from his conqueror after his loss.

In his winning speech after the final, Ruud said: “First, I would like to congratulate Hugo for his week and sorry about today.

“I think I played the best match of the year against you, so I’m really sorry. I’m really happy, but sorry, Hugo.

“I know that against you, if I don’t play well, you’re gonna destroy me, so I knew that I had to wake up and play well.

“I’m really happy, and to win here in Stockholm is a little bit of a childhood dream because it’s close to Norway, and all the legends have played here in the past. Federer, Nadal, Borg, McEnroe, you name it, so it’s an honour to get a title here.

“I kind of said I knew I had to come out and play really well, otherwise it would be tough against a good player like Hugo, and I even surprised myself at times today with the shots that went in.

“They don’t always go in, so luckily the lines were in the right position today, and yeah, I don’t know. I played some of the best tennis I’ve played this year, so I cannot say much more than this.”

The updated ‘Race to Turin’ after Casper Ruud wins in Stockholm

The ‘Race to Turin’ is now heating up after two recent triumphs on the tour.

Prior to Ruud’s victory at the Stockholm Open, Daniil Medvedev beat Corentin Moutet to win the Almaty Open, his first title since 2023.

Medvedev’s success at the ATP 250 event has put some pressure on those above him.
