Shockwaves were sent around the tennis world yesterday, as news broke of Carlos Alcaraz’s split with long-time coach Juan Carlos Ferrero.

It was a wholly unexpected revelation, with both parties posting messages thanking one another.

However, it was the coach who appeared to let a sliver of information slide, as he inferred that he wished they could have continued.

Alcaraz’s message to Juan Carlos Ferrero was an emotional one, and seemed tinged with regret.

Now, the 22-year-old has to contend with a new tennis season looming and the task of re-arranging his coaching team.

According to Spanish outlet MARCA, the six-time Grand Slam champion has already begun this process, with internal promotions seemingly the way forward for now.

Samu Lopez, who joined the team just last year, will naturally take on the head coach position, at least for now.

However, perhaps most surprising is the plan to increase the prominence of Alvaro Alcaraz, brother of the player.

The report states that he has previously just been called upon for ‘sparring’, but with the confidence of Carlos, and given that he has been ever-present alongside him ever since he broke onto the tour, his chances of a promotion are high.

Why Carlos Alcaraz split with Juan Carlos Ferrero revealed

Whilst the tennis world was left utterly confused by this breaking news, more information has come to light that explains why this occurred.

After all, before such key additional details were revealed, many were left speculating why anyone would cut short such a fruitful and trophy-laden partnership.

Alas, according to Spanish journalist Javier de Diego, it was not the amicable ending some might have expected, with Carlos Alcaraz instigating it.

He told RNE Deportes: “The rupture was produced two days ago; it is motivated by a lack of contractual agreement, and not by disagreements regarding the methodology or scheduling of the usual training work, neither physical nor technical.

“We could say that the relationship is broken due to failing to reach an agreement in the negotiation of the new contract for Juan Carlos Ferrero as Carlitos Alcaraz’s coach.”

Tennis fans were left shocked by Alcaraz’s split with Ferrero, but this latest information will likely only provoke even more debate.
