Aryna Sabalenka is closing in on another Australian Open title, although Paula Badosa will have something to say about that.

Badosa shocked Coco Gauff in their Australian Open quarter-final clash, with the 11th seed beating the WTA number three 7-5, 6-4.

Tennis fans were angry about the broadcasting of Gauff versus Badosa, with the latter now set for another hugely tricky semi-final tie with Sabalenka.

The Belarusian won her quarter-final clash with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-2, 2-6, 6-3, with both matches having taken place at Rod Laver Arena.

That is once again the setting for Sabalenka versus Badosa, and indeed played host to the men’s quarter-final involving Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.

Carlos Alcaraz shocked by superb Aryna Sabalenka shot in Australian Open quarter-final

The Spanish star managed to take in some of Sabalenka’s match while preparing for his own in the gym, with footage now emerging of Alcaraz reacting to a superb shot from the Belarusian.

She clinched a stunning second set break point against her Russian opponent, with her sliced effort leaving Alcaraz completely blown away while watching on TV at Melbourne Park.

World number one Sabalenka failed to win that set, but did manage to win the next to secure an Australian Open semi-final spot.

Novak Djokovic comes from behind to beat Carlos Alcaraz in Australian Open quarter-final

Immediately after the Belarusian soared into the last four, Alcaraz failed to do so as he lost 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 4-6 to Djokovic.

In an Australian Open epic, the 37-year-old came from behind to defeat the 21-year-old to set up a semi-final clash against Alexander Zverev.

Djokovic needed three hours and 37 minutes to secure the quarter-final win, in what was the earliest stage in a competition the pair have met in their careers.

The Australian Open crowd were treated to another iconic meeting between the master and the apprentice, who played out a similarly thrilling match in last year’s Olympic final.
