Carlos Alcaraz has now sent a message of congratulations to Jannik Sinner, following his Miami Open title success.

The 22-year-old, who simply hammered Daniil Medvedev and Grigor Dimitrov in the semi and final respectively, has been in brutal form this campaign.

Yesterday was no different, and despite the Bulgarian arguably playing the tennis of his life, having even reentered the ATP top ten too, he stood no chance.

That is the gulf in quality between everyone else and Sinner at the moment; likely a worry that Alcaraz is well aware of.

However, whilst they do remain fierce rivals on the court, off it there seems to be a huge mutual respect between the two.

This is evident in the manner in which they rush to laud one another for their respective successes.

This title is no different, with Sinner taking to Instagram to write: ‘It’s the good time. Thank you Miami! Winning here is special. Let’s go!’

Alcaraz would be found in the comments, simply offering a wordless response consisting of three emojis: applause, an arrow pointing upwards and fire.

Given Sinner has just leapfrogged him into second in the ATP world rankings, the middle one is particularly appropriate.

An almighty battle for Grand Slam titles awaits

With Sinner having enjoyed a greater start to the new season than he could have ever possibly imagined, who knows how high this Italian mastermind can fly?

After all, his form is immaculate, and of late it truly seems like nobody can beat him.

Nobody except a select few, with Alcaraz being one such example.

That is a notion only emphasised by their enthralling Indian Wells showdown, in which the 20-year-old came out on top.

His pace, power and shot-making were second to none, but they had to be to quell the threat of such an in-form opponent. Should he recapture his consistency, which he has threatened to do at times this year, then we could have a true battle on our hands for the remaining three Grand Slam titles.

Especially if Novak Djokovic remains incapacitated too.

With Sinner snatching the Australian Open title, and now just one major away from equalling Alcaraz’s tally, 2024 promises to be a rollercoaster year as these two powerhouses trade blow after blow in the race to replace the old guard.
