In their very first meeting on the ATP Tour, Carlos Alcaraz defeated Joao Fonseca to advance to the third round of the Miami Open.
Alcaraz beat Fonseca in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, picking up the victory without conceding a break of serve.
The Brazilian, who forced Jannik Sinner to two tiebreaks in Indian Wells, found it slightly more difficult against the world number one.

With his triumph, Alcaraz improved his flawless streak against players younger than him to 13-0.
After beating the 19-year-old, the seven-time major champion took to social media to send him a message.

In a post on Instagram. Alcaraz said: “Great debut against a great player! @joaoffonseca. Looking forward to more Miami!”
Following his breakthrough year on the tour in 2025, Fonseca has made five tournament appearances so far in 2026.
The young star has featured in Melbourne, Buenos Aires, Rio, and Indian Wells, enjoying his best run at the latter.

In the first leg of the Sunshine Double, Fonseca earned wins over Karen Khachanov and Tommy Paul en route to the fourth round.
He was ultimately knocked out by Sinner, despite being competitive with the Italian.

Alcaraz’s next assignment at the Miami Open comes in the form of 30th seed Sebastian Korda, who has enjoyed a strong season so far .
The American has made quarterfinals in Brisbane and Dallas, and claimed his first title of the season at the Delray Beach Open, where he beat the likes of Casper Ruud, Flavio Cobolli and Paul.
Korda has faced Alcaraz five times before on the ATP Tour, and has only got the better of him once.
His sole triumph came at the 2022 Monte-Carlo Masters, where he overcame Alcaraz in three sets.
Since then, Alcaraz has beaten Korda three times, though their most recent bout was at the 2024 French Open, and they have only ever played on hard court once.
