Carlos Alcaraz has issued a message to Jannik Sinner, ahead of their final showdown of the year at the ATP Finals.

It marks an appropriate conclusion to a campaign dominated by this duo, as they have once again split this year’s Grand Slam titles down the middle and foiled anyone who should try to unsettle their dominance.

However, this is a rivalry that remains hugely amicable, even if they have both handed the other some of their lowest moments within the sport.

As such, Carlos Alcaraz’s message is hardly the call to arms some might have hoped for.

Taking to Instagram, the 22-year-old sought to emphasise his excitement as he smiled into the camera.

Speaking in Spanish, he greeted his fans before revealing his thoughts on the imminent showdown.

Alcaraz claimed: “Hi everyone, I’m really happy to be able to play against Jannik tomorrow, another match in your house. I hope you all enjoy the game. I’m excited even if there are only two or three watching, but that’s all. So, I’m very happy, let’s go!”

Despite the friendly nature involved and the parallels some draw, Alcaraz and Sinner were recently told their rivalry is incomparable to that of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal’s at the moment.

It almost feels strange that we have gone two months without seeing these two renew their rivalry, with their last meeting coming in the US Open final.

In fact, whenever they meet nowadays, it is for a trophy, given they are, by some distance, the top two-ranked players in the world.

The ATP Finals are clearly no different, and it does seem fitting to end a year dominated by Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner matches with one final showdown.

Is another Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner final good for men’s tennis?

However, it is the former who retains the head-to-head lead over the Italian, having won seven of their last eight encounters, and ten of their 15 overall meetings.

Sinner will be keen to stop that rut tonight, and will arguably never get better conditions for it on an indoor court in front of his home crowd.
