Carlos Alcaraz booked his place in the quarter-finals at Queen’s for the second time, where he’ll play Arthur Rinderknech.

Alcaraz defeated Jaume Munar in a closely contested three-set battle that lasted three hours and 24 minutes, the longest match of the tournament so far.

The Spaniard extended his winning streak to 15, which is the longest of his career on the ATP Tour, dating back to the beginning of the Italian Open in May.

It was a big victory for Alcaraz at Queen’s, but the match didn’t come without its difficulties, and his compatriot looked to be closing in on a shocking upset at several points in the contest.

The world number two voiced his frustrations after the match and highlighted one area of his game that was causing him problems.

Carlos Alcaraz says what he was really disappointed with against Jaume Munar

In his post-match press conference, Alcaraz said: “I felt good during the whole match. I felt like I was playing great tennis from the baseline. But the serve was really disappointing.

“I mean, 52%, 53%, 50% in the three sets, something like that. So it was really disappointing that I got frustrated for that.

“Got the break in the third set, and then he broke my serve twice in a row. Yeah, that’s where the frustration came from.

“Yeah, I’m not used to doing it. Honestly, I’m used to controlling myself a little bit, my emotions. Today I couldn’t, but I didn’t give up.

“I just kept fighting, stayed there in the match the way that I could. And just happy that I got, you know, through in the end. But yeah, I got frustrated for that.”

Carlos Alcaraz says if this is the most confident he has ever felt

When asked if this is the most confident he has ever felt on court, Alcaraz answered: “Probably (smiling).

“Yeah, I mean, the level that I’m playing lately it’s really high. I feel that. Yeah, I have a lot of confidence right now.

“Obviously, this tournament is kind of getting experience, getting myself used to the grass again. But yeah, just really happy to get my longest winning streak of my career.

“Hopefully not gonna stop here (smiling). I’m gonna keep, like, want to keep winning. Yeah, that give me a lot of confidence. The wins give you confidence in that, so let’s see which match I’m gonna stop.”

Alcaraz has a 2-0 head-to-head record against his next opponent, Rinderknech, who he beat in the first round of Queen’s in 2023.
