Carlos Alcaraz and Coco Gauff are set to be two of tennis’ brightest stars in the coming years, expected to dominate given all the talent they already boast at such young ages.
And whilst the former has enjoyed a far more profitable 2024 than the American, it would be unwise to discredit or write off the 20-year-old.
Gauff split with coach Brad Gilbert after her poor US Open, and has been taking some time to refocus ahead of the Asian leg of the tour.
However, against all the odds, she has recovered with alarming speed to win last week’s China Open.
A Masters 1000-level event for the women, Carlos Alcaraz was also the proud winner of the men’s ATP 500 alternative.
The two have sought to laud one another for their respective achievements.
Carlos Alcaraz sends message to Coco Gauff
In fact, speaking after her win to the press, Coco Gauff would even attribute their successes to a shared trip they had enjoyed just a week earlier.
She claimed: ‘Carlos and I both went to the Forbidden City earlier this week. Someone in the press asked me if it was going to bring luck. I was like, I don’t know, I don’t want to jinx it. Then Carlos won.
‘At that time, it was only the Round of 16 for me. But I guess the Imperial Palace brought us luck.’
She then would repost a picture of the two of them on her Instagram story, tagging Alcaraz and writing: ‘lol not too bad’.
The four-time Grand Slam champion would simply reply with: ‘Congrats!! We should’ve dressed like that in the ceremony as well…’.
Carlos Alcaraz and Coco Gauff will be seeking more success in China
Whilst Alcaraz and Gauff have both soared to early success in China, their exploits in this country are far from finished, with the former now competing in the Shanghai Masters, whilst the 2023 US Open champion will be seeking to add to her triumph with a win in Wuhan.
However, rain delays are prohibiting them, and many others, from scything through these competitions.
The Spaniard has already defeated two hometown heroes on his way to the Round of 16, where he has set up yet another clash with Gael Monfils.
Meanwhile, Gauff will kickstart her campaign in Wuhan with a match against Viktoriya Tomova.
