Carlos Alcaraz suffered a shock Paris Masters exit as he lost his last 16 encounter with Ugo Humbert.
Alcaraz congratulated Humbert on the win, with the latter having beaten the former 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 in the French capital.
Humbert set up a Paris Masters quarter-final meeting with Jordan Thompson with the win, with the Frenchman the 15th seed at the tournament.
Alcaraz called the fast courts ‘crazy’, with the Paris Masters having the quickest courts across the Masters 1,000 this year.
But that didn’t impact home favourite Humbert, who simply blew away Spanish four-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz.

Alcaraz lost to another Frenchman in Hugo Gaston at the same stage of the competition in 2021, with the former now detailing how that compared to his latest defeat.
“Well, it is different,” Alcaraz said in his final Paris Masters press conference. “A lot of things happen, you know, from that match until today. I have had a lot of success here in Paris, so I guess a lot of, you know, friends, guys, supporting me a little bit.

Ugo Humbert secures joint-biggest career win vs Carlos Alcaraz
Humbert would have been massively boosted by the Paris Masters crowd, although many perhaps would have been supporting Alcaraz given both his immense talent and previous success there.
But it is now time for a different winner in France, with Alcaraz having won the French Open for the first time earlier this year.

Six-time tour-level champion Humbert will be desperate to be that man, having just picked up the joint-biggest win of his career in terms of ATP rankings.
The Frenchman, who overcame world number two Alcaraz in two hours and 17 minutes, beat then-number two Daniil Medvedev at the 2022 ATP Cup.
His latest success also represents a fine national achievement, with Humbert becoming the first Frenchman to earn top three win at Paris-Bercy since 2010.
Back then, it was the iconic Gael Monfils who ousted number two Roger Federer, while Michael Llodra edged out number three Novak Djokovic.
