Carlos Alcaraz is through to the semifinals of the Japan Open in his debut appearance at the event.
The Spaniard continued his flawless run in Tokyo, earning another straight-sets victory against Brandon Nakashima to set up a clash with Laver Cup teammate Casper Ruud in the final four.
Alcaraz suffered an injury to his ankle earlier on in the tournament, but since then, he has looked completely pain-free, having torn through his quarter of the draw in dominant fashion.
Outside of his Laver Cup loss to Taylor Fritz, the world number one is undefeated since the Wimbledon final, and looks unstoppable on the ATP Tour at the moment.

“A semifinal in my first appearance is something great. I just tried to not let the American, you know, go forward.”

Carlos Alcaraz matches the ‘big three’ after win at the Japan Open
With his triumph over Nakashima, Alcaraz has now reached his ninth consecutive tour-level semifinal.
He is just the fourth player since 1990 to do so, following Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
The last time Alcaraz did not make the semifinal of an ATP tournament was at the Miami Open, where he crashed out in the first round to David Goffin.
Since then, the six-time major champion has been on a tear and is eyeing up career title number 24 in Tokyo.
