Carlos Alcaraz has made his desire to win the Australian Open and complete the career Grand Slam this year no secret.

In fact, the pressure he is heaping on one tournament, his first of the year, might seem ridiculous to some.

However, for a player of his quality, such confidence is definitely justified.

A title in Melbourne remains the outstanding major missing from his collection, having amassed two of the other three Grand Slams over the past few years.

And, speaking alongside the reigning champion Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz has now spoken again about just how badly he hopes to dethrone him.

Carlos Alcaraz speaks about wanting to win the Australian Open

Speaking to a reporter almost instantly after touching down from his flight, he and Sinner were bombarded with questions about their recent exhibition in Korea and the upcoming Australian Open.

Having flown together on the same plane, it’s clear that they boast a fine relationship with one another.

Carlos Alcaraz would be the greatest youngster ever if he won the 2026 Australian Open – change my mind…

“Having that record of being the youngest player to complete the Calendar Grand Slam, it is something that sticks in my mind.”

However, asked plainly about his desire to win this event, Alcaraz laughed as he admitted: “Oh, I will try, obviously!

“But you know, we will see how it’s gonna be. Three amazing weeks ahead of us, if it is three.

“But, you know, that’s what both of us are here for, you, to try to do a good result, good stuff here. So let’s see what it’s going to be.”

Alcaraz spoke about wanting to win the Australian Open just last month as well, exclusively to The Tennis Gazette.

Carlos Alcaraz’s record at the Australian Open

2026 will mark the fifth time that Alcaraz has competed in the main draw at the Australian Open, and he will hope to make it a lucky return.

After all, history has not been kind to the Spaniard in Melbourne, with the quarter-finals marking his best-ever performance at the event.

He has managed that feat twice in the previous two years, having missed the 2023 event due to a hamstring injury.

Before that, he lost in the third round to Matteo Berrettini, whilst 2022 marked his main draw debut at the major level.

Why do you think Carlos Alcaraz has struggled at the Australian Open in the past?
