Carlos Alcaraz reacts on Instagram after losing to Alex de Minaur earlier today

Alex de Minaur warmed up for the Australian Open in style by beating Carlos Alcaraz in a practice match earlier today.

After the game, the Aussie player received a classy message from the player he had just beaten.

What Alcaraz said to Alex de Minaur following exhibition win

It was a seriously impressive victory for the Australian player earlier today.

De Minaur played his part in a great match, running out a 6-4, 7-5 winner in front of a packed-out crowd at the Rod Laver Arena.

The 24-year-old took to Instagram to state that he had a lot of fun playing the Spaniard and he received a message back from his opponent.

Alcaraz said on De Minaur’s Instagram post: “Thank you, Alex! Always a pleasure to share the track with you.”

It was a huge win for the Australian number one going into next week’s first Grand Slam of 2024.

He goes into this edition of the famous event as the first Australian player to be seeded inside the top 10 for an Australian Open since Leyton Hewitt back in 2006.

Aussie must believe he can win major tournaments

It’s been a great start to 2024 for the Sydney-born player and he’s claimed some huge scalps already this year.

He’s kicked off the new year by beating four players inside the top 10; with Taylor Fritz, Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev all succumbing to De Minaur.

Now, the youngster must end his pretty underwhelming record in Grand Slam events starting with the Australian Open.

De Minaur has reached round four in the last two years. As a result, he will want to go deep into the second week this time around.

The future looks bright for De Minaur. Now, he will look to follow up his big wins in 2024 with a strong showing next week.
