Carlos Alcaraz continued his superb season with a hard-fought Italian Open final victory against Jannik Sinner.
Alcaraz had surprising support from the Italian Open fans during his clash with the ATP number one in Rome, which he won 7-6(7-5), 6-1.
Steve Johnson thinks Alcaraz is the French Open favourite over Sinner, with the second Grand Slam of 2025 now underway.
Qualifying for Roland Garros has already started, with the main draw in Paris set to commence later this month.
Alcaraz has risen one spot to second in the ATP rankings after his Italian Open win, with Sinner remaining in top spot.

Carlos Alcaraz praised for what he did in the locker room after beating Jannik Sinner
The Spaniard now has three titles for the season, with Tennis TV sharing footage of his latest celebrations in the locker room.
And Alcaraz has been praised for telling his team to celebrate respectfully during those celebrations, with the four-time Grand Slam champion not wanting to upset Sinner and his team.
“A true champion!” one fan wrote on X, with a second commenting: “The future of tennis is in safe hands.”
A third fan wrote: “The champion not only gets a trophy, but also this ‘respect award’! Full marks to Alcaraz for this move.”
And a fourth said: “That’s what I call “feet in the sand”. The most focused of the whole team, a real gentleman! Great.”
Other fans impressed with Alcaraz noted: “Great character Carlos,” “Oh bless that’s thoughtful,” and “Very sweet boy!”
One fan did, however, slightly play down his actions, writing: “That’s so sweet, though he is showing respect to the entire team, not just Jannik. Let’s try to chill with the forced bromance on Carlos and Jannik.”

Carlos Alcaraz vs Jannik Sinner Italian Open final points stats
Alcaraz and Sinner have already seen a lot of one another despite their relatively brief careers so far, with that situation unlikely to change in the near future.
And it is the Spaniard who currently holds the bragging rights over the Italian, having won seven and lost four of their meetings.
He needed one hour and 43 minutes to secure his latest victory, in which he upset the top seed and home favourite in Rome.
Sinner was playing his first tournament since returning from a three-month ban, having won the Australian Open just before then.
| Jannik Sinner (1) | Point stats | Carlos Alcaraz (3) |
| 1/6 (17%) | Net points won | 2/2 (100%) |

Both players soon turn their focus to the French Open, with yet another final between the two a real possibility in Paris.
