Carlos Alcaraz exacted his revenge over Jannik Sinner after winning their anti-climactic Cincinnati Open final.

Sinner remains number one on the ATP Tour, but Alcaraz has closed the gap after emerging victorious in their latest encounter.

The Spaniard lifted the Cincinnati Open trophy high after Sinner retired ill from their final after just 23 minutes.

As ever, the champion was gracious after a bittersweet win, with Alcaraz saying in his post-match speech: “I am pretty sure that from these situations you are going to come back better and even stronger.

“You always do and that is what really true champions do and you are really one. Sorry and come back stronger.”

A third wrote: “As always, Carlos is a thorough gentleman. Best wishes to Carlos for winning Cincinnati 2025 and best wishes to Jannik for a speedy recovery.”

Further praise arrived from other fans, who said: “Congratulations to Mr and Mrs Alcaraz, you raised a well-mannered young man,” and “Traits of a champion! Carlos is an excellent tennis player and an even better person!”

Why Carlos Alcaraz fully deserves high praise after his win over Jannik Sinner

Remarkably, ATP number two Alcaraz didn’t end there with his admirable treatment of a clearly disappointed Sinner.

He showed his class once more with a heartfelt social media post, having also consoled his rival on court shortly after his retirement.

The Spanish ace is still only 22 years old, but continues to show maturity beyond his years, both on and off the court.

He is therefore fully deserving of his Cincinnati Open praise, which perfectly accompanied his fantastic run at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament.

Alcaraz is clearly Sinner’s main rival, but that rivalry was put aside thanks to his kind and compassionate nature.

Importantly, they remain fierce rivals when it comes to action on the court, with another reunion very much on the cards at the US Open.
