Carlos Alcaraz looked back on his 2024 season and opened up on the most difficult moment.

Just five years after making his ATP Tour debut, the Spaniard has already claimed four Grand Slam titles and became the youngest World number one.

The 21-year-old is aiming to build on his success in 2025 and try to catch Jannik Sinner at the top of the ATP rankings.

Alcaraz added to his legacy in 2024, but it did not come without overcoming a significant obstacle, the likes of which he had not previously faced before.

What was the worst moment of Carlos Alcaraz’s 2024 season?

2024 marked the first time that Carlos Alcaraz won multiple Grand Slam titles in the same season.

Alcaraz won his first French Open crown and successfully defended the Wimbledon title just a month later and became the youngest man to win those tournaments in the same year.

But before this period of success, Alcaraz suffered the sort of injury he had not previously experienced which hampered his preparation for Roland Garros.

“My worst moment in tennis. I think that in 2024 when I got injured. I injured my forearm on the clay tour in April. I had to miss several tournaments that I was really looking forward to playing, especially in my country, Spain,” he told MoluscoTV’s YouTube channel.

“I had many doubts about whether I was going to feel good again, to be able to hit the ball normally because it bothered me. Weeks went by. The doctors told me, no, in two weeks you will be able to play perfectly.

“The two weeks would come and again it bothered me, hurt me, so that created a doubt in me of not knowing when I was going to return. Not knowing if I was going to be able to hit my forehand again or the shots normally. And there were super important tournaments in sight.”

Which tournaments did Carlos Alcaraz miss in 2024 due to injury?

Alcaraz first suffered an ankle injury at the Rio Open which forced him to retire against Thiago Monteiro after just two games.

He returned and won the Indian Wells Masters before reaching the quarter-finals in Miami.

Alcaraz’s forearm injury caused him to miss the Monte Carlos Masters and the Barcelona Open, before returning in Madrid.

After a quarter-final exit in the Spanish capital, Alcaraz missed the Italian Open, before entering the French Open and playing with a protective sleeve on his right arm.

Despite the lack of matches entering the clay court Grand Slam, Alcaraz defeated the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev on the way to winning his first French Open title.
