Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner were a class above on the ATP Tour this year, sharing the four Grand Slams.

The Spaniard and Italian continued their reign of dominance in 2025, finishing the year ranked number one and two in the world.

They contested three major finals, with Alcaraz winning in Paris and New York, while Sinner emerged victorious at Wimbledon.

It’s fair to say there’s a pretty big gap between Alcaraz/Sinner and the rest, but who is leading the chasing pack?

At a press conference ahead of the ‘Racquet at the Rock’ and the ‘Miami Invitational’, Alcaraz was directly asked by The Tennis Gazette who else stood out for him on the ATP Tour in 2025.

Carlos Alcaraz says Alexander Zverev and Felix Auger-Aliassime stood out for him this year

The six-time Grand Slam champion admitted that he and Sinner have set the standard in men’s tennis this year.

“I don’t know, obviously, we can see the rankings, the points,” said Alcaraz.

“Jannik [Sinner] and I, we were above everyone else, but every year is kind of different.

“There is a pre-season between seasons, which, that month of practising, you can get better in every aspect of your game, physically, tennis-wise.

“This year is going to be totally different, probably another player will step up to catch us up, and play really good tennis and win things.

“I don’t know, we will see.”

Alcaraz proceeded to name two players he has been impressed by in 2025.

“For example, Felix [Auger-Aliassime] is playing great, or has finished playing great tennis,” he said.

[Alexander] Zverev is always a player who comes back really strong about everything.

Who will join Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in a new ‘big three’?

“I think he knows what he has to do for next season.

“There are a few other players who are always really dangerous too, and we have to be really focused on them.

“I think it’s going to be a really interesting year that we are going to have ahead of us.”

Alcaraz highlighted Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alexander Zverev as players to look out for, but how well did they perform in 2025?

Zverev began 2025 in fine form, reaching his third career Grand Slam final when he beat Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open semis.

Unfortunately for Zverev, he came up short once more, losing to Sinner in straight sets, falling to 0-3 in major finals.

He was unable to replicate the level he showed in Melbourne elsewhere, suffering early exits at Wimbledon and the US Open.

The German didn’t fare much better at the Masters 1000 level, but did add another title to his trophy cabinet in Munich, beating Ben Shelton to win his home tournament.

Like Zverev, Auger-Aliassime made a strong start to the year, winning the Adelaide International in the build-up to the Australian Open.

That form didn’t translate to Melbourne, although the Canadian did enjoy Grand Slam success later in the year, reaching the last four at Flushing Meadows.

He won another two ATP 250 titles before the end of the year, securing big results in Montpellier and Brussels.

It’s tough to gauge which of the pair enjoyed the better season, although it’s certainly an interesting debate.
