Carlos Alcaraz has become one of the best players in tennis over the past few years with his impressive shot-making.

There are few players on the ATP Tour more enjoyable to watch than the young Spaniard, who never fails to stun fans with his technical ability.

Carlos Alcaraz won Wimbledon and the French Open this year, as he continued to perform at the highest level.

The 21-year-old has the opportunity to complete the Career Grand Slam this year, as a title at the Australian Open would complete the ‘set’ for Alcaraz.

However, ahead of the Australian Open, Alcaraz has admitted he is struggling with his serve, a worrying sign for fans of the world number three.

On the topic of shots, the Spaniard recently revealed which shot he would love to take from an ATP legend.

Carlos Alcaraz would pick Andre Agassi’s return to add to his skillset.

In his pre-tournament press conference, Alcaraz was asked an interesting question, that provided an equally interesting response.

“If you could pick one skill set from one player, past or present, which player and what skill set would it be?” asked the interviewer.

“That’s a good one,” said Alcaraz.

“I would pick probably Andre Agassi’s return.”

Alcaraz and Agassi played doubles together ahead of the 2024 US Open, facing off against Novak Djokovic and John McEnroe.

Trailing 6-9 in the match tiebreaker, Agassi nailed a vintage backhand down the line to win a point to which Alcaraz was more than impressed.

“That’s what I’m talking about,” he said.

Djokovic recognized that at 54 years old, Agassi’s backhand was still as dangerous as ever, prompting McEnroe to make a change.

“We keep playing to his backhand John [McEnroe], we’ve got to change the tactics, let’s go,” he said.

Djokovic and McEnroe eventually clinched the light-hearted tiebreak 10-8, but Agassi’s backhand evidently left its mark on Alcaraz.

How far away is Carlos Alcaraz from matching Andre Agassi’s career achievements?

Alcaraz would love to take Agassi’s return, but he would no doubt love to take a few of his Major titles as well.

The American is tied for sixth on the all-time list for Grand Slam titles during the Open Era, with Alcaraz a fair way back as we approach the 2025 season.

Alcaraz may be trailing Agassi, but if he continues at the same pace for another 16 years, he could win a fair amount more than the eight-time Slam champion.

If the Spaniard can match the longevity of Agassi, he could potentially put up numbers that would have him compared with the likes of Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer, who have all won 20 or more Grand Slam singles titles.

Alcaraz won his first Major title at the US Open in 2022, when he took down Norway’s Casper Ruud in four sets to secure the win at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

It was his first and only Major to date on the hard courts, as the 21-year-old struggled to repeat the feat in 2023, and 2024.

He’ll be hoping to finally get his hands on a first Australian Open title this year as he gets his campaign started against Alexander Shevchenko on Monday, January 13.
