Carlos Alcaraz knows what it is like to win your first title at 18-years-old like Joao Fonseca has just done in Buenos Aires.

Fonseca made history reaching the Argentina Open final, but he was not done there and went onto beat Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets to claim his first ATP Tour title.

It has already been a very strong start to the 2025 season for the Brazilian, with Fonseca continuing from winning the ATP Next Gen Finals in Jeddah last year.

This has included making his Grand Slam debut from qualifying, with Fonseca beating Andrey Rublev at the Australian Open to get his first top 10 win.

Prior to the tournament, Fonseca shut down comparisons with previous greats, but these comparisons are only likely to get louder now.

As expected, the comparisons between Fonseca and Alcaraz are already being made due to the parallels between their respective careers.

They have also both won the Argentina Open title now, with Alcaraz having beaten Cameron Norrie in the final two years ago.

It seems as though Alcaraz is not shying away from these comparisons either, as he was one of the first to publicly react to Fonseca’s maiden title win in Buenos Aires.

Just minutes after the conclusion of the final, Alcaraz wrote on social media to congratulate the Brazilian teenager.

“Impressive Joao! (fire and handshake emojis) Many congrats!!! (heart and Brazilian flag emojis), ” Alcaraz said on X (formerly known as Twitter).

Alcaraz was not done there either, as he responded to some comments about Fonseca and a potential match in the future.

Andy Murray is excited about Fonseca and Alcaraz playing one another in the future like many fans, and that was one of the questions that was brought to the Spaniard in response to his initial message.

Someone in the comments of his congratulatory message said that they needed to see a match between Alcaraz and Fonseca.

To which Alcaraz simply responded with an arrow emoji that said soon, followed by a fire emoji, suggesting that he was as hyped about the possibility as anyone.

The first chance of that coming to fruition is at Indian Wells, where they will both be playing.

However, Fonseca currently has to come through qualifying, unless he is granted a wildcard to gain automatic entry into the main draw.
