Carlos Alcaraz was looking to book his place in the third round of Wimbledon for the fourth year in a row.
The two-time defending champion kicked off his campaign with a five-set thriller, as Alcaraz defeated Fabio Fognini in his first-round match.
Returning to Centre Court for his second-round match, Alcaraz took on British youngster Oliver Tarvet.

Facing a British player at Wimbledon for the first time in his career, Alcaraz emerged victorious in straight sets 6-1, 6-4, 6-4.
After the match, Alcaraz gave his verdict on how the British crowd treated him and Tarvet during their second-round clash.
Carlos Alcaraz thanks the ‘respectful’ British crowd following win over Oliver Tarvet
During his post-match interview, Alcaraz took the time to thank the crowd for their support on Centre Court.
“I know it’s not personal, I’m just really grateful for the support I’m receiving here every match, every day, every practice, it’s unbelievable to be honest,” he said.
“Today playing against someone here at home, it’s not easy, but once again they were really respectful to me, to the match, to my opponent as well.
“I love playing in this atmosphere, this court, once again I enjoyed it so much.”
The Spaniard was also keen to praise his opponent, who made his Centre Court debut against Alcaraz.
“[I want] to give a big credit to Oliver [Tarvet], his first or second match on the tour, I just love his game, to be honest,” said Alcaraz.
“The level he played in his first match on Centre Court, I know that is really difficult, he showed really great tennis.
“I knew at the beginning that I had to be really focused, tried to play my best tennis. Today I played great tennis, I’m really happy with my tennis today, but credit to him as well.”

Former British number one Tim Henman was another to congratulate Tarvet, as he shared his thoughts on commentary.
“[Carlos] Alcaraz will be delighted with his afternoons work, a totally different performance from his first round,” he said.
“Nice to see Alcaraz recognising the Tarvet team, he’ll be very happy to be through to the third round.
“Spare a thought for this man, a great run through qualifying, won his first Grand Slam match to be out on centre stage. Steep learning curve, he’ll take many, many positives from today.”
Breaking into the top 400 with his first-round win at Wimbledon, we likely haven’t seen the last of Tarvet at SW19.

When asked about his 20-match winning streak, Alcaraz explained how his mindset allows him to perform at the highest level.
“I just, I found the right way, I guess,” he said.
“I’m trying to enjoy every match. When I step onto the court, I try to enjoy it no matter if I’m winning or losing, that was the key since the last two or three months, having a great winning streak.
“I’m just trying to keep going, to keep enjoying, playing this tournament, on this court, trying to keep going forward.
“It’s a gift, I’m trying to make the most of my time playing at Wimbledon, playing in this beautiful atmosphere, let’s see how far I will go.”
Alcaraz will no doubt hope to extend his winning streak to 21 matches when he takes on either Felix Auger-Aliassime or Jan-Lennard Struff in the third round on Friday, July 4.
