Yesterday, the China Open drew to a close with Carlos Alcaraz ousting Jannik Sinner to claim silverware once again this year.
Alcaraz has been in fine form during 2024, winning the French Open and Wimbledon, whilst he also reached the final of the gold medal match at the Olympics.
The 22-year-old looks set for global domination in the world of tennis in the coming years and this matchup with Sinner will almost certainly be repeated over the years.
Alcaraz has already got his hands on four major titles and he might be forgiven for already eyeing up all sorts of records when it comes to how many he’s going to win.
The China Open matchup with Sinner was immense yesterday and this one clearly meant a lot to the Spaniard.

Carlos Alcaraz shares why Juan Carlos Ferrero was crying after China Open
There was an emotional moment shortly after Alcaraz claimed the win when his coach, Ferrero was spotted crying in his box.
The Spaniard has worked tirelessly with Alcaraz in the early days of his career and clearly he’s doing wonders for his development.
After hearing of Ferrero getting somewhat emotional, Alcaraz lifted the lid on his preparation leading into this tournament in China.
He said on the court afterwards: “Well, I didn’t see him crying. That’s a good thing to know, I guess (smiling). But yeah, I mean, it was a really special win for me, lifting this trophy in front of my team, part of my family. It was a great moment for me. I guess he got emotional at the end because we all know what we went through the last month or the last two months. It was a really difficult moment on the court, off the court.
“As I said in the speech, thanks to them I started to get the joy back playing the matches, and practicing, and I got motivated again. I really wanted to travel, to play tournaments again. Probably after the American swing, I was a little bit down, that I didn’t want to touch a racquet for a while. I didn’t want to travel, let’s say. After that we talk a lot during those days, knowing that I have to be back practising, be stronger physically, be stronger mentally just to overcome those problems, let’s say.
“The last month we’ve been working really, really hard on the court, off the court, just to be able to feel this moment again. I’m going to say that’s why he got emotional. For me, it was special. For the people that are around me, it’s a special moment. I’m going to say that’s why.”
Alcaraz and Ferrero can win many more titles together
Players go through different periods with different coaches and there may come a time when Alcaraz isn’t working with Ferrero.
However, that doesn’t look like being just yet with the pair seemingly tailor-made for each other on the professional tour.
Ferrero has really given Alcaraz the confidence to overcome the challenges he’s faced and the number of titles he’s already won is pretty special.
Alcaraz needs a coach who is going to keep him grounded and in Ferrero, he looks to have well and truly struck gold.
