Carlos Alcaraz has confirmed he will not be at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony.

The Spaniard is in the French capital ready to play his very first Olympic Games and is a strong favourite to win the gold medal for Spain.

The 21-year-old is in superb form having won the French Open and Wimbledon in the space of less than two months.

But with a hectic Olympic schedule coming up, Alcaraz has decided to skip the opening ceremony which officially marks the start of the Paris Games.

Why is Carlos Alcaraz missing the Paris Olympics opening ceremony?

Hundreds and possibly thousands of athletes will be present at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony which is due to take place along the River Seine.

Alcaraz will not be part of that contingent and took to social media platform X to explain why he will not be present.

“I was very excited to be able to go to the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics today,” the four-time Grand Slam champion said.

“But tomorrow I have two games and it is advisable to rest and be ready! This begins!” At the Paris Olympics Alcaraz is due to play in singles as well as the men’s doubles alongside Rafael Nadal.

Alcaraz could not be entering his first Olympic Games in better form. He claimed his second title of the season by winning his maiden Roland Garros championship.

He followed that up by defeating Novak Djokovic for the second successive year to defend his Wimbledon crown.

Now he returns to the same venue when he won the French Open to try and win Olympic medals for his country and he is relishing the opportunity, especially while having the chance to play alongside Nadal in the doubles competition.

“In these first Games, it was a dream for me to represent your country, but it makes it even more special to be able to play alongside your idol, Rafa Nadal. It is something incredible, something that we are going to enjoy,” Alcaraz said.

“We are going to get ready these days in the doubles to be able to have a good result and try to qualify for a medal. I, personally, am going to try to enjoy every moment.”
