However, one Spanish journalist has now made a rather bold claim about Carlos Alcaraz’s plans to succeed Ferrero, which might dispute that suggestion.

Coming not long after it was revealed why Ferrero rejected Alcaraz’s contract offer, this journalist has now explained what the player plans to do in the immediate aftermath of this startling revelation.

He admitted: “I don’t rule out that a call might be made, especially to someone very important and very famous, who might want to lend a hand from time to time, to act as a kind of advisor.
“If everything goes well, Samuel will be the coach.”

Alcaraz, realistically, has all the tools to beat anybody on tour. Some would even argue that he would have been able to compete with the Big Three during their prime, such is the unbridled generational quality he boasts.
However, it will be interesting to see how much of his success was down to Ferrero’s coaching prowess.
His tactical know-how and ability to keep adding to Alcaraz’s game were never questioned, but given he will now have to head into 2026 without that leadership, the 22-year-old could struggle.
In a new coach, he will want someone open-minded and willing to provide him with the hard truths about the areas that need improving. After all, it is his and Jannik Sinner’s relentless hunger for progression that has kept them so far ahead of the chasing pack.
Alcaraz also needs a detail-oriented coach who thrives on preparation, to help him utilise the perfect strategies to keep him on top.
