Carlos Alcaraz has continued his winning run at Indian Wells after beating Denis Shapovalov to move onto the fourth round.

Alcaraz is bidding for Indian Wells history this year, after winning the Masters 1000 title in both 2023 and 2024.

The Spaniard is the highest ranked player remaining in the draw, with Alcaraz looking to catch Jannik Sinner up in the ATP rankings following his ban.

With top seed Alexander Zverev already out of the tournament, many are seeing Alcaraz as the overwhelming favourite for Indian Wells this year in what would be his third consecutive title victory.

Alcaraz has already achieved a record at Indian Wells this year, as he continues his impressive run at the Californian tournament.

The world number three played his 20th match at Indian Wells against Shapovalov, and after winning it has put himself in a pretty strong position in the record books.

Having won 18 of his 20 matches at Indian Wells, only Jimmy Connors sits in a better position than Alcaraz with 19 wins.

Alcaraz is equal to Roscoe Tanner in this statistic, and ahead of ‘big three’ members Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

Both Federer and Nadal lost three of their first 20 matches at Indian Wells, while Djokovic was beaten four times.

Alcaraz’s only losses at Indian Wells have come against two multiple-time Grand Slam champions in Andy Murray (2021) and Nadal (2022).

Can Carlos Alcaraz join Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in the Indian Wells history books?

Alcaraz has now won 14 consecutive matches at Indian Wells, as he looks to become only the third singles player in history to win three titles in a row at the tournament.

The only other players who have managed to do that are the aforementioned Federer (2004-2006) and Djokovic (2014-2016).

Djokovic won 19 consecutive matches in his dominant run, that came to an end in the fourth round of the 2017 tournament against Nick Kyrgios.

While the Swiss won 18 matches in a row at Indian Wells, before Federer was stunned by a lucky loser in his first match at the 2007 event.

Alcaraz will look to move towards his third consecutive Indian Wells title on Wednesday March 12 in his fourth round match against Grigor Dimitrov.
