Cameron Norrie came through in straight sets against Lorenzo Sonego at Indian Wells yesterday and afterwards, he explained that he’s not been practising.

The Great Britain star was speaking to BBC Sport.

So, what did Norrie say after beating Sonego at the tournament which he won in 2021? Let’s take a closer look…

What Cameron Norrie said after beating Lorenzo Sonego

Well, it was a comprehensive win for Norrie who won 6-4, 6-4 to set up a match with Gael Monfils.

Norrie never really looked threatened against the Italian player and he will now hope for a good run at the tournament.

It would seem, however, as though the player has not been in the best of health and it’s been hampering his practice sessions.

He told BBC Sport: “I got sick at the end of Rio so I haven’t been able to practice too much.

“I’ve been trying to recover and that’s what I was happy to be out here. I just need to build back again for Miami and all these matches to try to improve.

“It’s not easy but you take it for granted sometimes when you’re not feeling well.”

Norrie will have a taste for more silverware

The 28-year-old Great Britain player knows what it takes to win at Indian Wells and he will fancy seeing his name on the trophy again.

Norrie will want to kick on during 2024 and Indian Wells is a tournament that brings back happy memories for the player.

Winning the title again won’t be easy but if he can stay fit and is in good health he shouldn’t be completely discounted.

Norrie didn’t look like he was suffering from a lack of practice as he blew Sonego away in pretty emphatic style.

The player is extremely talented and hopefully, his fans can see him reach the latter stages of plenty of tournaments this year.
