Cameron Norrie stunned the tennis world at the Paris Masters, sending world number one Carlos Alcaraz spinning towards the exit.
Alcaraz admitted afterwards he wasn’t at his best against Norrie, and this result leaves him with plenty to ponder going into the ATP Finals.
Jim Courier cited mistakes made by Alcaraz during the defeat, and clearly, there is some work for the Spaniard to do when it comes to playing on the indoor swing.
As poor as Alcaraz was, it’s important not to take anything away from Norrie, who was stunning throughout the contest, especially after losing the first set.
Norrie lost to Alcaraz at Wimbledon, but here he was comfortable after settling into the match, with his preparation seemingly spot on.

Cameron Norrie reveals what he did on the morning of the Carlos Alcaraz match
Norrie did have a chance to get to grips with the conditions after coming through a first-round match with Sebastian Baez.
However, it was perhaps his meticulous preparation that allowed him to overcome Alcaraz and reach the last 16 of the Paris Masters.
After the match, Norrie spoke with the ATP Tour reporter Sam Jacot and explained the reason behind his relaxed performance and what he did on the morning of the match.
He said: “I actually went for a walk with my coach this morning and we talked through serving for a match and what I need to tell myself because I was so, so tight serving for the match against Baez yesterday. I was 0/40 on my serve but managed to get it. I told myself I deserved to be in this moment and want to be here, so I felt quite relaxed with that, and it was a nice walk and a very important walk.”
Norrie improves record against Alcaraz
Before the match in Paris, Alcaraz had a 5-2 winning record against Norrie, and now he’s pulled a little bit closer to the Spanish sensation.
Norrie is vastly improved this year, and perhaps seeing the emergence of Jack Draper has allowed him to go under the radar a little bit and revive his form.
| Year | Winner | Event | Round |
| 2025 | Cameron Norrie | Paris Masters | L32 |
| 2025 | Carlos Alcaraz | Wimbledon | QF |

The 30-year-old is up to the world number 35 on the ATP Tour, and right now, he’s showcasing the sort of form that previously saw him sit inside the world’s top eight.
Norrie likely took advantage of an underperforming Alcaraz, but this merely serves to highlight that on his day, the left-handed performer is capable of mixing it with the best.
