Alexander Zverev has been told that Roland Garros may be his final chance to win a Grand Slam.

The German returned to the winners circle by clinching the Italian Open title for the second time on Sunday.

He became the third male player to win multiple titles at the Foro Italico since Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

His sixth Masters 1000 title has played him further into the minds of many as a contender in Paris, and it is a chance to win a major that The Tennis Podcast believes he has to take.

Tennis pundit says Alexander Zverev must win the 2024 French Open

Zverev will enter the French Open still searching for his first Grand Slam title. The upcoming edition of the clay court major may be one of the 27-year-old’s best chances to win one of tennis’ four biggest honours.

This is the view of The Tennis Podcast who highlighted the question marks surrounding the form and fitness of defending champion Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, which could open the door for Zverev.

“I think that Zverev is absolutely in the mix for Roland Garros and I think actually he really should be one of the top three or four favourites for the whole thing given what’s happening with Alcaraz, Djokovic and Sinner,” they said.

“If he doesn’t win it now, I’m not sure he will ever win a Grand Slam because this is as good as you can imagine it getting for him. But I still think there’s uncertainty over whether he just throws in a terrible performance or somebody gets him.”

What is Alexander Zverev’s Grand Slam record?

Zverev has yet to win a Grand Slam and has only reached one major final in his career so far.

That came at the US Open in 2020 when he took on Dominic Thiem. He opened up a two-set lead, but the Austrian clawed his way back to secure a 2-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 win.

Zverev, who failed to successfully serve for the championship, became the first player in Open era history to lose a two set lead in a US Open final.

He has also made multiple semi-final appearances, with two in Australia and three at Roland Garros, including his 2022 battle with Nadal which ended after he suffered an ankle injury.

The World Number Four has struggled at Wimbledon however, where he has yet to progress beyond the fourth round.
