Ben Shelton shared his thoughts on whether he should be considered a contender to win a Grand Slam.

The 21-year-old is one of the most exciting young talents on the ATP Tour and many believe he has what it takes to become one of the game’s best.

In only his second full season on the circuit, the American is already inside the world’s top 15 and has a Grand Slam semi-final to his name.

With each match and tournament he plays Ben Shelton is continuing to learn more about his game and looks to keep making improvements as he strives for greatness.

Does Ben Shelton think he is currently a contender for a Grand Slam?

Shelton has shown he can be a threat at a Grand Slam after reaching the semi-finals of the 2023 US Open.

It took the World number one at the time Novak Djokovic to defeat him and the Serbian went on to win his 24th major.

In 2024 however, Shelton has yet to make a big impression at the Slams, but he is impressed with the way his game has developed since joining the tour back in 2022.

“Me and my Dad have this conversation a lot. It’s crazy to think about how far we have come and how much more room we have for growth,” Shelton told reporters at the Cincinnati Open.

“I am not where I want to be, I am not doing the things I want to do yet, but I know I have room for improvement and the work ethic to continue to get better and I have a great team in place.

“I’m excited with what I have been able to accomplish, but we have a lot more work to do. But I’m happy with the position I am in and the experience I have been able to have.”

What are Ben Shelton’s Grand Slam results in 2024?

Shelton began his 2024 Grand Slam season by reaching the third round of the Australian Open where he suffered a five-set defeat to veteran Adrian Mannarino.

At the French Open he once again reached the third round and this time lost to Felix Auger-Aliassime in a rain-affected match. At Wimbledon, Shelton achieved his best result by reaching the fourth round.

It was not easy for the youngster as his three victories over Mattia Bellucci, Lloyd Harris and Denis Shapovalov each went to five sets.

He faced a tricky task of defeating World number one Jannik Sinner, and despite a valiant effort Shelton was defeated by the Italian in straight sets.
