Ben Shelton and Victoria Mboko have become the latest tennis champions, winning the ATP and WTA titles in Canada.
Shelton is sixth in the ATP rankings after his maiden ATP Masters 1000 victory, in which he beat Karen Khachanov in the Toronto final.
Mboko meanwhile finds herself 24th in the WTA rankings after defeating Naomi Osaka in the Canadian Open final in Montreal.
The 18-year-old clinched her first tour-level title, and has risen a huge 61 places in the world rankings ahead of her next appearance at the Cincinnati Open.
Shelton is also playing in Cincinnati after his superb success, with the American taking on Camilo Ugo Carabelli first up.

Ben Shelton praises Victoria Mboko after her Canadian Open title
Ahead of his opener, he was tasked with explaining how the Canadian Open finals have inspired young kids coming through or watching on.
Discussing the likes of himself, Mboko, Osaka, and doubles finalists Coco Gauff and Taylor Townsend, he replied: “Yeah, for me it was really cool.
“It’s a diverse sport at the top, especially right now. And it’s really cool to see young stars, new stars breaking through.

“I’ve watched a little bit, not too much of Mboko, but she’s really fun to watch, amazing player. At 18 years old it’s very, very impressive, especially not just how she won, but also who she beat.
“And yeah Coco and Taylor, obviously two people I’m really close with, playing mixed doubles with Taylor at the US Open.
“It’s a great opportunity for Americans in tennis right now, but just in tennis in general, I think that there’s a lot of hype around the sport.
“I think that tennis is reaching a different demographic than it was before, and that’s because of, especially in the US, stars like Coco and Frances [Tiafoe] and Taylor. But not just Americans, North Americans, Europeans too. Yeah, it’s really cool for me to see.”
Victoria Mboko 2025 vs career stats after Canadian Open success
American players really enjoyed themselves in Canada, led by ATP champion Shelton and WTA doubles winners Gauff and her compatriot McCartney Kessler.
They defeated Townsend and Zhang Shuai in the final, leaving Shelton delighted with the current state of American tennis.
| Rank | Titles | Win/loss | Prize money | |
| 2025 | 24 | 1 | 53/9 | $1,195,240 |
| Career | 24 (Career high) | 1 | 122/47 | $1,256,948 |
But Mboko was undoubtedly the star of the show in Montreal, with the Canadian coming from behind to beat former world number one Osaka.
The teenager, who started the season ranked 333rd in the world, won 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 in front of 11,000 spectators.
But unlike Shelton, Mboko has decided to withdraw from the Cincinnati Open, with her fellow Canadian Open finalist Osaka taking the same decision.
And that is certainly understandable from the WTA duo, who will want to be in the best shape possible for the US Open.
