Holger Rune looks set to miss the remainder of the ATP Tour season after sustaining a terrible injury at the Stockholm Open.
Rune could be out for six months after a suspected torn Achilles, which occurred during his semifinal with Ugo Humbert in Sweden.
Humbert commiserated with Rune after the injury led to his immediate retirement during their match, which the latter led by one set at the time.
He was the top seed at the ATP 250 tournament, from which he exited in tears after the nightmare injury to his Achilles.
Rune had been scheduled to continue his season at the Swiss Indoors Basel this week, but he has unsurprisingly withdrawn from the event.

Casper Ruud hopes Rune can recover quickly, with their fellow professional Ben Shelton now issuing a message of his own.
Taking to his Instagram story, the American wrote: “Hate to see this. Praying for a speedy recovery Holger Rune.”

And also reacting to the injury was tennis legend Boris Becker, who wrote on X: “Just heard on the news that Holger Rune has torn his Achilles… wishing him a full & speedy recovery!”
Holger Rune’s career ATP titles amid injury setback
Rune is clearly a popular figure in the tennis world, which will be desperate for a rapid and full recovery for the 22-year-old.
The world number 11 was enjoying a strong run at the Stockholm Open, where Humbert now meets Ruud for the title.
Rune was chasing a second ATP title of the season after his success in Barcelona, and the sixth of his impressive career so far.
Such a career has involved the Dane rising to fourth in the world rankings, with over 170 matches won and $14,456,712 earned in prize money.

There will be fears for his future given the nature of the injury, but at 22 he has plenty of time to recover and enjoy great success going forward.
It will, however, be a long and hard road back to full fitness, with Rune needing the right people around him to get back to his very best.
