Belinda Bencic has broken her silence after having a dispute with Coco Gauff at the China Open.

Bencic appeared irritated by Gauff after she told her ‘no-one’s talking to you’ when expressing her frustrations about the timing of the crowd’s support for her opponent.

At the point of this frustration she led by a set and a break, with it seeming that Bencic made a mistake against Gauff by doing this.

It was not just the world number three that she was annoyed at, with Gauff also revealing what Bencic told her team which she was not happy about.

Belinda Bencic posts message on Instagram following drama with Coco Gauff

Emotions were running high in the heat of the battle between Bencic and Gauff, and both players have now had some time to reflect on the situation.

In her post-match press conference, Gauff spoke about how much respect she has for Bencic, particularly coming back to the WTA Tour as a mother.

While it is unclear as to whether the pair have spoken privately since their fall out, it appears that Bencic has also moved on from the situation.

In her first post on Instagram since the incident unfolded, Bencic wrote, “Came short in a tough battle yesterday, Thank you Beijing @chinaopen it’s been fun! Next week new chance => Wuhan 🇨🇳 @wuhanopenwta.”

When could Belinda Bencic play Coco Gauff again?

After missing most of the 2024 season following the birth of her first child, Bencic has made an emphatic return to the WTA Tour this year.

This includes Bencic reaching the Wimbledon semifinals and winning the Abu Dhabi Open, enabling her to climb from outside the top 400 to her current ranking of world number 16.

As she mentioned in her social media post, Bencic will remain in China as she gets set to play another WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan.

Gauff is still competing at the China Open in Beijing, but she is also scheduled to play in the upcoming tournament in Wuhan.

As a result, there are likely to be many eyes looking to see where Gauff and Bencic fall in the Wuhan Open draw to see when they could potentially play each other again, with the tournament beginning on Monday, October 6.
