Andy Murray’s absence from Wimbledon is set to be a tough one to take.
The Scotsman remains one of Britain’s most successful stars at this event, and following Fred Perry’s title in 1936, it really felt like no one would follow in his supremely famous footsteps despite having seen top talent come and go.
In the end, fortune shone down on this hard-working star, who would eventually claim two titles across a two-year spell to storm into the history books.
It is this legendary status which is set to make Murray’s absence from Wimbledon this year so much harder to take.
That was, until conflicting reports emerged suggesting that his non-attendance is far from confirmed…
Leon Smith makes Andy Murray injury prediction
In a shocking turn of events, it has now been argued by many other reports that the 37-year-old will in fact be fit for Wimbledon, with the procedure on his spine far more minimal than was first thought.
Now, there is hope that his recovery might be minimal, thus forging a pathway for him to make himself fit and available to travel to SW19 against all the odds.

Whilst this is yet to be confirmed, with Andy Murray’s camp frustratingly silent on the matter, one pundit has sought to offer his insightful verdict on the matter.
Leon Smith, who claims to have insider knowledge on the matter, told BBC Sport ahead of the Queen’s championship final: ‘Look, I have seen the stories on social media and that is not my understanding.
‘This has come from one source and it has a knock-on effect with everyone reporting on it. He obviously went through a procedure yesterday and we will have to wait and see now.
‘My understanding is that no decision has been made. Let’s hope for the best for Andy.’
Conflicting Andy Murray reports ahead of Wimbledon
These conflicting reports are the last thing that anyone needs ahead of a Wimbledon that was widely expected to be Murray’s last.
After all, having questioned his retirement all season, there was hope that the injury-ravaged star would at least get one final farewell on the court that he has given so much to, and in turn has given so much back.

However, upon the emergence of the initial report, there was a fear that not only would he miss Wimbledon, but his Olympics were under serious threat too.
Now, with these alternative suggestions, there is a chance Murray still plays all of these events.
It is impossible to predict, but with Wimbledon just one week away, we patiently await an official update from his camp to put the debate to bed once and for all.
