Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori are in very different positions ahead of the 2025 Australian Open.
The veterans are still going strong on the ATP Tour and they are looking forward to competing in the first Grand Slam of the new season.
The players, now 39 and 34 respectively, are still capable of producing exquisite tennis and troubling the top ranked players.
They intend on doing just that at Melbourne Park in January, but they do so from different positions, with one player having an easier path into the tournament than the other.

Before Grand Slams, one of things fans look forward to is seeing which players received wildcards for the event.
They are usually reserved for players with a strong history at the event who perhaps are not ranked high enough to enter the main draw directly.
For example, the Sydney Morning Herald has reported that Stan Wawrinka has received a wildcard for the Australian Open, but Kei Nishikori has not.
This means the Japanese player, who is currently ranked outside the top 100, may have to enter the qualifiers to earn a spot in the main draw.
What are Stan Wawrinka and Kei Nishikori’s best results at the 2025 Australian Open?
Wawrinka has a special relationship with the Australian Open.
Two of his best matches came at Melbourne park in 2013 and 2014, when he faced Novak Djokovic in back-to-back years.
Both were epic five-set battles, with Djokovic claiming their first one before Wawrinka gained some revenge the following year.
2014 was special for Wawrinka, as he went on to reach the final where he defeated Rafael Nadal in four sets to win the first of his three Grand Slam titles.
Nishikori has not triumphed at the Australian Open, but he has reached the quarter-finals on four occasions in 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2019.
