The 2025 Australian Open is starting to draw to a close as the women’s singles final between Aryna Sabalenka and Madison Keys headlines the order of play on day 14.
Just two days of the first Grand Slam tournament of the year now remain at Melbourne Park as Sabalenka looks to seal a three-peat of Australian Open titles. The WTA Tour world No1 is on the cusp of becoming the first woman to lift three titles in a row Down Under since 1999.
Martina Hingis remains the last woman to win three straight Australian Open singles titles in 1997, 98 and 99. Sabalenka can now join the Swiss icon and also clear recent back-to-back winners Jennifer Capriati (2001, 02), Serena Williams (09, 10) and Victoria Azarenka (12, 13).

WTA world No14 Keys is in Sabalenka’s way of retaining the Australian Open title in 2025 as the American contests only her second career Grand Slam final. Keys lost 6-3, 6-0 to Sloane Stephens in the 2017 US Open when the 29-year-old last made the final at one of the Slams.

An upset could be on the cards at Melbourne Park this year, however, after Keys beat world No2 Iga Swiatek 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 to reach the Australian Open final. The semi-finals were a little easier for the world No1 as Sabalenka beat Paula Badosa 6-4, 6-2 for her third-straight final.
Keys is also the third different opponent Sabalenka has faced in an Australian Open final, as she beat Elena Rybakina 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in 2023 and Qinwen Zheng 6-3, 6-2 in ‘24. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is also the sole player to win a set off Sabalenka at the tournament in 2025.
