The main draw of Indian Wells has got underway this year with both the ATP and WTA draws taking place, while top seeds like Carlos Alcaraz are still yet to play.

One of the biggest shocks from day one of Indian Wells came in the form of Naomi Osaka, who lost to Camila Osorio in straight sets.

After suffering a disappointing defeat, Osaka was asked about the Indian Wells courts that have been changed for the first time in 25 years.

The other half of first round matches are still to be played, that includes Nick Kyrgios attempting to return from a wrist problem that he suffered in practise ahead of the tournament.

While the former Wimbledon finalist is struggling to return to previous form, a less talked about ATP player has already made history at Indian Wells.

Fabian Marozsan makes history with his first round win at Indian Wells

After winning his first round match against Pedro Martinez in straight sets, Hungarian player Fabian Marozsan achieved an impressive statistic.

From all the players to have played at least 10 ATP Masters 1000 matches and not won a title, Marozsan has the highest win percentage.

Having won 69.2% of his 26 matches at this level, Marozsan sits above former Grand Slam finalists Milos Raonic and Kei Nishikori, as well as rising talent Jakub Mensik.

Included in Marozsan’s success at Masters 1000 level is two runs to the quarter-finals, with one coming at the 2023 Shanghai Masters and the other at last year’s Miami Open.

However, perhaps his most memorable victory came in his Masters 1000 debut at the 2023 Italian Open when he beat Alcaraz.

What did Carlos Alcaraz say about Fabian Marozsan after their match at the 2023 Italian Open?

Ranked at world number 135, qualifier Marozsan stunned world number two Alcaraz after beating him in straight sets at the Italian Open.

After suffering a shock defeat in Rome, Alcaraz admitted that he was very surprised and predicted Marozsan to make his top 100 debut in the near future.

“Well, I didn’t watch too much about him before the match,” said Alcaraz. “I just follow a lot of results about him in the challengers and stuff. He did well. He was doing well before here.

“Of course, he surprise me a lot. I mean, his level was really, really high. Yeah, I’m sure he’s going to break the top 100 very, very soon. It was surprising for me.”

Alcaraz’s prediction became reality just a month later, as Marozsan won the Challenger title in Perugia to secure his place inside the top 100.

Marozsan now has a career-high ranking of world number 36, but is currently down on that at world number 54.
