The ATP Tournaments keep coming thick and fast, with tournaments in Stockholm, Belgium and Almaty getting underway on Monday.

The ATP 250 events are another chance for some players to earn more ranking points and get some indoor practice under their belt for the 1000 event at the Paris Masters before the year draws to a close.

It was Stockholm that took centre stage last night with the son of legendary Swedish player Bjorn Borg, Leo, taking on Sebastian Ofner.

Borg has been given a wildcard into this event and the world number 6-2 caused an almighty shock by sending Ofner packing and continuing his woeful run of form in 2025.

Sebastian Ofner continues an alarming losing streak

The Austrian player has endured a bit of a strange year to say the very least, and his form at present is offering cause for concern.

Ofner stunned the 13th seed Tommy Paul at Wimbledon earlier this year before losing out to Grigor Dimitrov in round three.

That win showcased his clear quality on the court, but since that day back in July, Ofner hasn’t won a single match, losing at the first hurdle in nine straight events.

This latest defeat to Borg definitely offers some serious questions for Ofner, and having previously been the 37th best player in the world back in January 2024, he’s now down at 140 in the ATP rankings.

The nine straight defeats suffered by Ofner

Tennis at the professional level is tough, and it’s hard to know what the answer is for Ofner as he looks to arrest this slump.

Clearly, he’s very capable on his day, and although the win over Paul is the highlight of his year, he’s also defeated Frances Tiafoe this year and made the semifinal of a 250 event in Geneva back in May.

As a result, the drop off is especially concerning, and the fact that he’s now slipped out of the top 100 will have him desperately trying to recover things before the year is out.

Ofner has already beaten Borg this year, and this latest 6-3, 6-4 defeat certainly provides plenty more questions than answers for the Austrian.
