Aryna Sabalenka was able to beat Carson Branstine in their first round match at Wimbledon.
Sabalenka has been handed a tricky draw at Wimbledon this year, that started against Canadian qualifier Branstine.
Branstine had beaten Lois Boisson and former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu to come through qualifying, and looked to be a potential threat for Sabalenka.
However, the world number one just had too much for Branstine, who has now reacted to her loss on social media.

Branstine, who is the current world number 194, was commenting on her match with Sabalenka even before it happened.
After discovering that she had drawn to play the top seed, Branstine wrote on social media, “Maybe one day I’ll get a good draw LOL.”
After losing her match to Sabalenka, 6-1 7-5, Branstine did not appear to be too disheartened and wrote on social media again.
In another post on X (formerly known as Twitter), the 24-year-old said, “Wimbledon is so fun!! I had so much fun!! Tennis is fun!!”
What is next for Carson Branstine?
Branstine began the 2025 season ranked as the world number 264, but has impressed on the lower level ITF Tour and won her first matches on the main WTA Tour over the grass court season.
This was highlighted by her victory over top 20 player Liudmila Samsonova in Hertogenbosch, which helped prepare her for Wimbledon qualifying.
After winning three matches to advance to her first Grand Slam main draw, Branstine is set to improve her career-high ranking once again and is currently at world number 170 in the provisional live rankings.
Despite being out of Wimbledon, Branstine’s grass court season is not set to end there as she has entered the new WTA 125 tournament in Newport, Rhode Island.
The Hall of Fame Open in Newport begins on Monday, July 7, with Queen’s champion Tatjana Maria currently as the top seed.
