Aryna Sabalenka has been enjoying some downtime after another busy season on the WTA Tour, in which she enjoyed huge success.

World number one Sabalenka won four WTA Tour titles in 2025, including a fourth Grand Slam at the US Open.

She also reached the finals of the Australian Open and the French Open, but lost to Madison Keys and Coco Gauff respectively.

Sabalenka enjoyed a similar run at the WTA Finals, but again fell at the final hurdle to Elena Rybakina in Riyadh.

Aryna Sabalenka matches Serena Williams with 70 weeks as world number one

But given her number one ranking, she is very much the player to catch on the WTA Tour heading into 2026.

In fact, the Belarusian has just started her 62nd successive week as world number one, and her 70th overall.

Her current streak is the fifth-longest this century, while her overall total means she has joined an exclusive group.

Also reaching 70 or more weeks as world number one were 11 other female icons, including Serena Williams and Martina Navratilova.

Others to have achieved the feat include Chris Evert, Martina Hingis, Monica Seles, her current rival Iga Swiatek, and all-time leader Steffi Graf.

Fellow legends Ashleigh Barty, Justine Henin, Lindsay Davenport and Caroline Wozniacki complete the impressive list.

Who could challenge WTA number one Aryna Sabalenka in 2026?

It’s been a hugely impressive run from Sabalenka, who hasn’t exactly looked like being toppled in recent times.

And that could very well continue in early 2026 and beyond given her history at the Australian swing, which kicks off the new season.

Sabalenka has won in both Brisbane and Adelaide, and has reached the last three finals of the Australian Open, winning twice.

However, she won’t have it easy, with WTA Finals champion Rybakina looking like she’ll cause a real challenge to the status quo next season.

Swiatek also looks like her former self, while Americans Coco Gauff and Amanda Anisimova shouldn’t be too far away from the discussion either.
