Aryna Sabalenka’s 2025 season is over, and whilst it has been laden with huge disappointments, it cannot be viewed as anything other than a success.
After all, she finished the season ranked number one in the world for a second straight year, whilst also adding another Grand Slam title to her sprawling trophy cabinet.
The main frustration that will irk her and her fans is that, had things gone her way, it could have been a campaign of true domination.
This was especially prevalent in the major tournaments, enjoying deep runs in all four Grand Slams and the WTA Finals, yet falling short in four out of five of the events.
It is likely these overwhelming blows that led to Aryna Sabalenka’s insightful season review.

Taking to Instagram, the Belarusian was quick to emphasise just how ‘tough’ she found her year.
However, she swiftly emphasised just how proud she felt regardless of these crushing losses, particularly early on in the season when Sabalenka came under fire for her comments after the Roland Garros final.
The way in which she bounced back from such disappointment, both on and off the court, was admirable. She went on to claim: “I’ve learned so many lessons this year through the ups and the downs of every single tournament and the training in between. Beyond blessed and grateful for it all.”
Sabalenka concluded by writing: “2026 season — bring it on”; a threat to the rest of the WTA Tour from the world’s top-ranked woman.
How did Aryna Sabalenka react to losing the WTA Finals to Elena Rybakina?
It was strange to see Sabalenka so outclassed, but such is the undeniable quality of Elena Rybakina, that is always possible.
When on form, she is one of the best players in the world, and over the last week, had been good value for the title.
However, clearly expecting more from herself, the 27-year-old was left in tears after the final as she gave an emotional speech to the crowd.
Sabalenka began by stating: “So many things we didn’t…”, before cutting herself off as she fought back tears. “I’m getting really sensitive,” she admitted. “So many things to be proud of.
“Elena, you were definitely a better player today. You literally smashed me out of the court so… Very well done.”
Tim Henman also pointed out what Sabalenka did straight after the final as well, which was interesting and further highlighted her sadness.
