Arthur Fils’ campaign at the Madrid Open came to an end after losing to Jannik Sinner in straight sets.

The Frenchman, who has been enjoying a hot run of form on the ATP Tour, fell to Sinner in the semifinals of the Masters 1000 event, 6-2, 6-4.

Since returning from a long-term back injury in February, Fils has picked up a title in Barcelona and has reached the final four at both the Miami Open and the Madrid Open.

A big reason for the 21-year-old’s impressive performances has been a new partnership with Novak Djokovic‘s former coach, Goran Ivanisevic, whom he appointed in February.

Despite the exit from the Madrid Open, Fils remained very positive about the work he has been doing with Ivanisevic in his corner.

Arthur Fils responds when asked about Goran Ivanisevic

Discussing the Croat in his post-tournament press conference, Fils said: “We are doing a great job. I think with Goran, he’s helping me a lot with his experience.

“Of course, I mean, I did, since two years, I did one hell of a job with Ivan as well, and they are close friends. So it’s pretty easy to work with both of them.

“But, yeah, since Goran arrive also I have another way to see the things, you know. It’s pretty good. Both of them I’m working very good with them.

“Yeah, since we start, I mean, of course we start in Doha, but it was just couple of days, and Ivan was there.

“But in Barcelona and now in Madrid, we did a hell of a job and very happy with that. I hope we’re going to keep going like this because it’s pretty good.”

Arthur Fils says he is a ‘quick learner’ after losing in Madrid

Asked if he has learned anything new about himself recently, Fils responded: “That’s a hell of a question, man.

“I’m a quick learner. I can learn the things pretty quick. In Miami I said that I was wasting too much energy on the court.

“And then I came back in Barcelona and Madrid completely different. So quick learner.”

Fils, currently 17th in the live ATP rankings, will be defending just 200 points across the Italian Open and Roland Garros.

With a strong run in Rome, Fils will likely be a top 16 seed at the French Open.
