Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer produced one of the greatest rivalries in professional tennis.
Their contrast in styles and having occupied the top two spots helped make their matches some of the most anticipated tennis has ever seen.
Both players helped push one to become even greater and there are very few who can match the legacies they have left in the sport.
Nadal and Federer inspired the likes of the ATP’s number 14 Arthur Fils and from the 40 matches they played against one another, there is one that stands out to him.

Arthur Fils names his favourite match from Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer’s rivalry
There are plenty of iconic matches from Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer’s 15-year rivalry.
Several of these matches are regarded by many as some of the greatest of all time, such as the 2008 Wimbledon final.
In this match Nadal ended Federer’s five-year unbeaten run at the All-England Club and in the process captured his first title on the grass at SW19.
But for Arthur Fils, it was the 2017 Australian Open final that Fils enjoyed the most, when Federer claimed his first Grand Slam title since 2012 and at the age of 35, beating Nadal in an epic final.
“My favourite tennis rivalry was Roger against Rafa,” the Frenchman told the ATP Tour website. “Because I watched so many of the matches and especially one when Roger came back in Australia.”

Arthur Fils names his favourite tournament to play in
While Fils named his favourite rivalry, he also revealed the tournament he enjoys playing in most.
The Frenchman is still in the early stages of his career but he travelled the world and competed in the world’s biggest tournaments.
Fils named the Indian Wells Masters as the event he enjoys playing in most, and he reached the quarter-finals there in March.
“Probably Indian Wells. It’s one of the chill [tournaments],” said Fils, who lost at Indian Wells to Daniil Medvedev five weeks ago.
“We can play soccer, we can play tennis, not a lot of noise. Everything [is] very calm, and beautiful as well.”
