Arthur Fils lost to Carlos Alcaraz 6-2, 6-1 in a 50-minute Qatar Open final.
The match was over in the blink of an eye, as Fils failed to deliver a performance that could even begin to challenge the world number one.
He was visibly frustrated at times and smashed his racket when Alcaraz secured the double break in the second set.
Is Arthur Fils a genuine threat to Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner?
Disappointed with the result and his performance, Fils issued several apologies during his runner-up speech.
Arthur Fils apologises to his team and the fans after his Qatar Open final performance
“Well, I don’t really know where to start,” he said.
“First of all, I want to thank the crowd.
“I’m very sorry for the final. I know it was a bit short.

“Thank you very much. It’s been eight long months with my injury; it’s been a long time.
“So I guess, in a time like this, you just have to think about the last eight months where I was struggling, not playing tennis.
“I just want to thank my team, sorry guys, today was not my day, but I think we did a hell of a job, ok.”
‘Today’ certainly wasn’t Fils’ day, as he lost the quickest final of 2026 so far.

Of course, he may choose not to play the tournament.
Withdrawing from an event in the hours after losing a final isn’t uncommon.
Whatever he decides to do, it’s good to see Fils back on tour after spending so long on the sidelines.
