Andy Roddick enjoyed great success during his time in tennis, winning a Grand Slam and becoming world number one.
Roddick’s tennis career isn’t one that will be forgotten any time soon, as the American won 32 titles during his time on the ATP Tour.
The 42-year-old won the 2003 US Open, and he remains the most recent American winner of a Major title.
Taylor Fritz reached the final of the US Open this year, losing out to Jannik Sinner, as he came closest to matching Roddick’s achievement.
Roddick also reached world number one during his peak, as he remained atop the rankings for 13 weeks before being replaced by the legendary Roger Federer.
Federer, the man who often had the better of Roddick, beat him in four Grand Slam finals.
Very successful on the court, Roddick also made a name for himself on tour, thanks to his humor and attitude, as he now recalls another funny story from his time in tennis.

Speaking on his Served with Andy Roddick podcast, the American recalled a ‘hilarious’ story from a match he played in Houston.
“This is going to get me in trouble,” he said.
“I’m playing Houston one year at the clay court event there, I think it’s like 2006, I’m not playing great that year.
“We’d gone from a grass Davis Cup tie the week before to clay, just trying to get through matches somehow.
“I forget who I was playing, it might have been [Oliver] Marach?”
In his second-round match, Roddick encountered a rowdy spectator who he had to listen to throughout the evening.
“This guy is just killing me the entire time, like just heckling me,” he said.
“This guy is just like ‘you suck’.
“I’m just ignoring him, and I miss a ball in the second set, and I say, ‘Damnit,’ and he goes, ‘oh now we’re cursing’.
“He kind of goes in and does the whole thing, so it builds and builds and builds, I go to the umpire and I say there’s going to be some fireworks here in a second.”
Things quickly boiled over as Roddick couldn’t resist a witty response to the fans’ constant remarks.
“He goes ‘Oh you kiss your mother with that mouth?’, said Roddick.
“I say straight to a quarter of the stadium, ‘No, I kiss your mother with this mouth’.
“The whole crowd goes ‘oooh’.
“The guy starts running down to the court and gets tackled, and I basically start dying laughing, like hysterically laughing.
“He ended up getting kicked out.
“Yeah that’s probably the hardest I’ve laughed on the court.”
What was the funniest tennis moment of 2024?
Whilst Roddick’s story was certainly a funny one, there have been plenty of moments to keep fans entertained this year.
One of those came in Basel earlier this year, as Ben Shelton and Andrey Rublev’s quarter-final match was postponed for a very unusual reason.
Smoke rose from the court, reducing visibility, which saw Shelton comically waving his towel around in attempt to resolve the issue.
Eventually, the smoke subdued and the pair could get on with their quarter-final matchup which was won by the American in three sets.
Another funny moment came at Indian Wells earlier this year, as Carlos Alcaraz’s match with Alexander Zverev was suspended due to a bee invasion.
Alcaraz sprinted to the locker room to avoid being stung, as the match was suspended for almost two hours, as a local beekeeper eventually removed the insects from an overhead camera.
Alcaraz went on to win the match in straight sets, before he thanked the beekeeper on social media.
“Not all heroes wear capes,” he said.
There were plenty of other moments that fans can look back upon and laugh about in 2024, and there will no doubt be more to come in the new year.
