Tommy Paul has really impressed his compatriot Andy Roddick with one area of his game in particular.

Paul made American history at the French Open earlier this year, where he reached the quarterfinals for the first time.

However, it has been a real struggle for him since then, with Paul struggling with an injury which has prevented him from playing more than four tournaments after the French Open.

Paul has played some exhibition matches in the off-season, and Roddick has suggested that the 28-year-old could still be a threat next year.

Andy Roddick says what Tommy Paul is better than everyone but Carlos Alcaraz at

In the latest edition of his podcast, Roddick was reviewing all of the top 20 players on the ATP Tour’s season.

The first of those was world number 20 Paul, who Roddick revealed he hoped had a better upcoming year in terms of health.

Also in his assessment of his compatriot, Roddick claimed that Paul has a better transition game than every player other than Carlos Alcaraz.

“He’s one of those guys you look at and watch, he’s made the semis of Australia, won the junior French Open, he made the semis of Rome I think this year before it started going downhill, he’s won Queen’s Club,” said Roddick.

“Well versed on every surface, as good a transition game this side of Alcaraz. Right, his ability to kind of take time away, use his volleys, use his quickness, use his athleticism.

“I always really enjoy watching Tommy Paul problem solve and I hope TP is healthy this upcoming year, and I hope we are talking more about his tennis than his injuries next year.”

Paul reached the semifinals in Adelaide last year, before he went on to reach the last-eight at the Australian Open.

This is not even the best result he has achieved in Melbourne, with Paul a potential dark horse for the Australian Open, where he has reached the semifinals before.

Paul will make his official return to the ATP Tour at the Brisbane International, which gets underway on January 4.
