The US Open is upon us and for Novak Djokovic, he finds himself in a pretty unusual position going into the tournament.

The Olympic gold medalist has dominated the sport for a number of years but this year has been a struggle to a certain degree.

Djokovic goes into the US Open without a major to his name and this is his final chance for success during this calendar year.

Some will point to the Olympic gold representing a fifth major of sorts but it’s not considered a Grand Slam event.

Now, ahead of the US Open, Andy Roddick has shared how he thinks Djokovic will perform at the New York tournament.

Andy Roddick makes Novak Djokovic prediction

The Serbian player is expected to play minus the knee support that he’s been forced to wear since tearing his meniscus at the French Open.

He will be bang up for the tournament given that it’s his last chance to claim success in one of the major events this year.

Roddick certainly feels he will go deep in the tournament and has shared how he thinks he will go.

He said on his Served podcast: “I like Novak through to the final. I like Novak to win the tournament. I’ve had it written in. He’s going through. I like Novak over Zverev, I’m going to choose Novak over the Chuckster.”

Novak Djokovic record at the US Open

The 37-year-old has won the tournament at Flushing Meadows on four occasions with his last success coming last year.

He defeated Daniil Medvedev in the final on that occasion to lift the prize that he also won in 2011, 2015 and 2018.

Djokovic would dearly love to claim a 25th Grand Slam and cement his status as the greatest tennis player to ever swing a racket.

The pressure is on for Djokovic at this event and he will have the likes of Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner potentially standing in his way of glory.

Djokovic has never shirked a challenge though and it will be fascinating to see how he performs over the next two weeks.
