Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro have been the standout American performers on the women’s side at Flushing Meadows this year.

Navarro’s red-hot rise has garnered the respect of many of her peers throughout the 2024 season, and she now finds herself in the semi-final of the US Open.

The 23-year-old defeated reigning champion Coco Gauff before setting up an eagerly-anticipated clash with world number two Aryna Sabalenka, who is in blistering form after extending her win streak to 10 on the American hard courts, for a spot in Saturday’s championship match.

It’s a semi-final duel that Navarro will relish after muscling her way past the Belarusian in Indian Wells earlier this year.

Pegula also finds herself in tip-top shape, having successfully defended her Canadian Open title before the US Open and establishing herself among the favorites.

The 30-year-old, however, faces a real test on Wednesday when she faces world number one Iga Swiatek for a spot in her maiden grand slam semi-final.

Andy Roddick praises Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro for their unmatched humility

After their incredible runs in New York, Jessica Pegula and Emma Navarro have established themselves in contention to be competing at the WTA Finals in November.

However it is not just their on-court prowess that has made them a favorite both in the locker room and among fans.

Andy Roddick, the 2003 US Open champion, has expressed his admiration for the way that the two stars have held themselves throughout their blossoming careers.

“The more impressive thing at least from where I stand, and it’s maybe a lazy trope that I am feeding into, but it’s not the fact that we have these two outstanding women playing great tennis,” he explained on the ‘Served with Andy Roddick’ podcast.

“It’s that not a single person in the locker room do you ever hear say they are entitled. They are considerate. That is where you hang your hat. If I am their father that is what I am most proud of.

“Whether they make the semis or the round of 16, it’s amazing, but to fight back the narrative of these spoiled brat rich kids, that doesn’t exist with these two.

“You would never hear a hint or a whisper of these two being anything less than professional and kind and considerate 24/7.”

Pegula and Navarro quietly going about their business at the US Open

While the limelight was assigned largely to the likes of Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff heading into the tournament, Pegula and Navarro have been quietly making waves in New York.

The two Americans have been fueling the anticipation for native success that has been hovering around Flushing Meadows this year.

Navarro is into her maiden grand slam semi-final, while Pegula has a real chance of breaking the quarter-final curse that she has grappled with at majors in recent years.

It’s no surprise that ex-stars such as Roddick are starting to comment on the humility shown by both women.

They have gone about their business in a mature way that is often rare to see from players on the WTA Tour.

Regardless of their respective results at the US Open this year, their inspiring attitude will be key to their future successes.
