Andy Roddick disclosed discussions he had with Jessica Pegula before she reached the US Open final.

Despite just falling short of becoming champion, the 30-year-old had a successful campaign in New York which culminated in reaching her first Grand Slam final.

Pegula ended her run of six successive quarter-final defeats at majors by beating World number one Iga Swiatek in straight sets.

She ended her North American summer hard court swing with three consecutive finals and has built some momentum going into the final portion of the 2024 season.

Andy Roddick shares conversations he had with Jessica Pegula before the US Open

Jessica Pegula has endured a difficult season in which she suffered a knee injury and missed the entire European clay court swing and French Open.

She returned this summer and won her first grass court title in Berlin before excelling on the North American hard courts.

Perhaps her form was influenced by Andy Roddick who shared that he had spoken with Pegula on how she can improve aspects of her game.

On a recent episode of his ‘Served Podcast’, the 2003 US Open winner said: “When Jess and I have talked in the past, it’s like, What do we need to improve on serve? How do you go about it?

“And the process is, you know, she name-checks people like Swiatek and Sabalenka, where it’s like, I need a little bit more movement so I can kind of get past that first strike and not get the racket taken out of my hands immediately. All I did with Jess, and all I have done, is continue to ask questions that she already knows the answers to.”

Pegula faced Aryna Sabalenka in the US Open final, which was a rematch for the Cincinnati Open championship match three weeks prior.

As was the case in Ohio, Pegula suffered defeat as Sabalenka carved out a tight 7-5, 7-5 victory to win the second Grand Slam of the season and her third major overall.

Pegula, who has now lost six of her eight matches against Sabalenka, took to social media platform X on Monday to comment on her latest US Open run.

“What a crazy month. Super proud of what I’ve been able to string together the last few weeks. My first slam and so many other milestones,” she wrote.

“Ashe was an incredible atmosphere Saturday! Thanks for the incredible amount of support I’ve received the last few days & congrats to Aryna and her team.”
