Jannik Sinner has made Andy Roddick re-evaluate his Australian Open predictions after struggling in his latest match.

Sinner is a two-time Australian Open champion, and has now won 17 consecutive matches at the Melbourne major after defeating Eliot Spizzirri.

While he came through this match in four sets, Sinner struggled with cramping before being able to leave the court as the heat rule came into play.

There has been a lot of conversation about Sinner and the heat rule, and it has even made former world number one Roddick discuss his Australian Open predictions again.

Andy Roddick makes Australian Open prediction following Jannik Sinner’s struggles

Prior to the tournament getting underway, Roddick made his Australian Open predictions and had backed Sinner to win the title for a third consecutive year.

Sinner has now faced a setback in just his third match, while his biggest rival Carlos Alcaraz has beaten Tommy Paul to reach the quarterfinals without dropping a set.

The same can also be said for 10-time champion Novak Djokovic, who is also into the quarterfinals without dropping a set after his next opponent Jakub Mensik was forced to withdraw.

Despite all of these factors, Roddick has still backed Sinner to defend his title when discussing him on his ‘Served with Andy Roddick’ podcast.

Roddick had also predicted world number one Aryna Sabalenka to win the women’s singles title for a third time, after she lost in the final last year.

Sabalenka beat Victoria Mboko to reach the quarterfinals in Melbourne for a fourth consecutive year and Roddick still believes she will win the title alongside Sinner.

Jannik Sinner’s results at the Australian Open after reaching the second week

After overcoming the challenges he faced against Spizzirri, Sinner has reached the second week of the Australian Open for a fourth consecutive year.

The first two times Sinner reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, he went on to lose to Stefanos Tsitsipas.

However, in the last two years, Sinner has gone on to win the title and he will be hoping to do the same once again in 2026.

Standing in the way of Sinner in his fourth round match this year is his compatriot Luciano Darderi, whom he has never played before.

Sinner will be encouraged by the fact that the conditions are not supposed to be as hot when their match takes place on Monday, January 26.
