Andy Roddick has delivered his verdict on who he thinks will win when Andy Murray plays Stan Wawrinka at the French Open this evening.

The draw for Roland Garros has thrown up some ridiculously good ties and this one feels intriguing.

Both players have won three Grand Slam titles during their career, with Wawrinka winning in Paris in 2015.

With the pair set to go toe-to-toe this evening, Roddick has been predicting who he thinks will edge through.

Andy Roddick predicts winner of Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka

Both of these players will be sailing off into the sunset in the near future, with this likely to be Murray’s final year on tour.

The player has a metal hip these days, whilst he also has issues with his knees and ankles.

Wawrinka has probably done more on clay than Murray during his career – with the Roland Garros victory one of the defining moments of his career.

Roddick thinks that that might give him the edge ahead of tonight’s match at the French Open.

He said on the Served with Andy Roddick podcast: “They’re champion floaters who I don’t think either will be a factor in this event.

“Like what has Stan been doing. He’s been playing, he never stops playing but he’s not been playing well.

“I will go for Stan.”

Murray handed favourable match against Wawrinka

The 37-year-old will lock horns in the first round against one of the few players who is older than him in the draw.

As a result, we have to disagree with Roddick and believe this is a game that Murray can come through.

Should he win, he might set up a game against Cameron Norrie and that would be pretty big for Great British tennis.

Murray will still have to play well to defeat Wawrinka but given the form of the Swiss player, he should fancy his chances here.

It’s been a long career for Murray but hopefully, he feels fit going into this one and can emerge victorious in his Roland Garros swansong .
