Maja Chwalinska’s fairytale run at the French Open was ended by Mirra Andreeva in the final.

Andreeva defeated Chwalinska comfortably in the championship match, beating her in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

How many Grand Slams titles does Mirra Andreeva have at the same age Aryna Sabalenka is now (28)?

The Pole was looking to become just the second qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam, following Emma Raducanu’s 2021 US Open triumph.

Chwalinska dropped just one set en route to the final, but couldn’t find an answer for a defiant Andreeva, who clinched her first major crown, aged 19.

While the 24-year-old delivered a remarkable campaign on the clay courts of Paris, former US Open champion Andy Roddick can’t wait to see her in action on grass.

Speaking in an episode of ‘Served‘, Roddick said of Chwalinska: “I can’t wait to see her on grass because there is something that we are all missing.

“Right now, you see the way she varies speed, and you go, that is made for a clay court or a slower, high-bouncing court.

“Now, I can’t wait to see her on something faster that shoots through the court, where she is not getting the benefit of time and seeing how it translates.

“I don’t think it’s as natural a transition, but I can’t wait to watch it. It’s almost like she had this amazing event.

“But she is going to get on-the-job training now, while being ranked 21 in the world and being a Grand Slam finalist.”

Maja Chwalinska’s only ever appearance at Wimbledon

Prior to the 2026 French Open, Chwalinska had only ever won one match at a Grand Slam in her career.

That sole victory came at Wimbledon during the 2022 season, when she came through qualifying to book her place in the main draw of a major for the first time.

Chwalinska beat 10-time Grand Slam doubles champion Katerina Siniakova in the first round, overcoming the Czech star in straight sets.

She fell in the second round, however, losing to American player Alison Riske-Amritraj.

Since then, Chwalinska has attempted to qualify for Wimbledon twice, but has not managed to advance to the main draw.

Chwalinska’s new ranking of 21st in the world will see her seeded at this year’s Wimbledon championships, should she stay inside the top 32.
